Year 1 for Mac Jones: Wins Camp Competition, Immediate Patriots Starter, AFC Playoff Berth, Pro Bowl Appearance.

Year 2 for Mac Jones: Heightened Expectations, More Weapons, Absolutely Jacked Physique … 4,500 Yards? Who can say?

Some in the national media, like NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, believe Jones is trending toward a second “breakout” year and could even approach dark horse MVP candidate status. From an increased rapport with his newfound partners in crime to the foundation he laid with tight end Hunter Henry last season, there’s certainly a good chance Pats Nation sees the reigns taken off a bit in the (gulp) Matt Patricia-led offense.

Whatever Jones’ game plan ends up looking like, you can’t say he hasn’t tried to show up for September in the best shape humanly possible.

Jones showed up on his girlfriend Sophie Scott’s Instagram story this week looking more shredded than ever. Not bad for a doughy dude who chomped shirtless on a cigar just over a year ago in the Alabama locker room.

Patriots QB Mac Jones is more shredded than ever

According to the New York Post (a reputable source), Jones and Scott recently traveled to Bermuda for his sister’s wedding, though that clearly didn’t prevent him from hitting the gym and transforming his body.

Jones’ velocity has reportedly been clocked upwards of 100 MPH this summer, a skill he’s sure to show off during July and Aug. during his many sessions with the wide receiving corps.

Let’s just hope he’s got better accuracy than Aroldis Chapman.

Jones showed off all the talent in the world in Year 1, but his offensive game plan was still primarily built around taking as few chances as he could.

With Joe Judge and Patricia in the building, will anything change in that regard? Jones seems to be on a mission to shift the paradigm himself and start hucking the ball to Kendrick Bourne, Tre Nixon, and anyone else who can stay healthy and get open.

That’s called progress.
