We’ll tell ya what — despite not showing up for voluntary OTAs and then swiftly getting moved to right tackle when arriving at minicamp, New England Patriots offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn has been a pleasant figure with the media.

He said that he’s ready to do whatever the team asks of him and spoke a little bit about the incoming changes on offense. Usually, with guys entering a contract year who just bailed on OTAs, you’re not exactly getting open-ended answers.

Speaking of Wynn’s contract, that’s kind of the elephant in the room. The former 2018 first-round pick is expected to hit free agency alongside 2019 first-round bust N’Keal Harry when the season ends. Wynn hasn’t exactly been a bust, but he also hasn’t been an impact first-round talent.

Since being selected by the Patriots, Wynn has appeared in just 34 of a possible 65 games and has struggled mightily in pass protection. Coming out of Georgia, the Patriots likely expected him to be a franchise cornerstone at left tackle.

Instead? He’s likely going to play out his rookie deal in New England and see where it takes him, because his recent comments on an extension all but officially prove the Patriots are in no rush to get something done.

"“I ain’t worried about no contract right now,” Wynn said when asked about the situation.“I’m focused on being the best player I can be for the team, so we can move forward to the season. I’m not worried about any of that right now. That will come when it comes.”"

Patriots’ Isaiah Wynn claims he’s not worried about his contract situation

Even without Wynn’s comments, Patriots fans would imagine the same thing, but the 26-year-old essentially revealing that no talks are being held further drives the point home.

New England has had a lot of turnover along the offensive line in recent years, and Wynn is the only main figure at the moment who isn’t signed beyond next season. Additionally, with Trent Brown signing a two-year deal and already getting reps at left tackle, it seems Wynn, who has never played right tackle in college or the pros, will be auditioning in his fifth NFL season.

At the very least, Wynn seemingly taking this all in stride when being asked about it is a positive. However, him being a no-show at voluntary OTAs, coupled with the fact he’s pretty much getting demoted ahead of a contract year, won’t exactly make for a pleasant situation.

Maybe the “Patriot Way” will swallow him in a few months, though, and all will be right in the world.
