The New England Patriots have to make a few more notable additions before they can consider themselves 100% done with their offseason spending, and it appears as though a big name free agent in Ndamukong Suh might actually have more interest in the Pats than he previously let on.

After joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following a brief stint in Los Angeles, Suh confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can contribute to a winner. Still, with Tampa Bay needing to cut some contracts to remain cash solvent, Suh has yet to be re-signed.

New England has had a relatively quiet offseason while the AFC around them has gotten even deeper, but they could help erase some of the bad will they’ve engendered by signing Suh. And it looks as if this pairing could be of mutual interest to both parties.

Suh was spotted at a Red Sox game over the weekend, fueling some speculation that he and his agent might be angling for a move to New England. Even at 35 years old, Suh can be a player that Bill Belichick leans on to get critical stops based on his production in the last few years.

Will the Patriots sign Ndamukong Suh?

Over the last two seasons, Suh has recorded 12 sacks for Tampa Bay. While he’s not the pass rush threat that he was during his All-Pro days in Detroit, he can still at up blockers and get into the backfield with some regularity.

Suh has moved all around the defensive line the last few seasons, bringing the versatility that Belichick loves to see. Though he already has a ring, Suh is not going to join a team that isn’t going to contend at this stage of his career. New England has enough financial wiggle room to sate his fiscal and competitive needs.

If the Patriots kept the starting lineup as it is now, Christian Barmore would start alongside impact 2021 free agent Davon Godchaux and Lawrence Guy. Wouldn’t a veteran floor-raiser like Suh lining up next to Barmore be exactly what this team needs to make sure their prized youngster builds upon his solid rookie season?

Suh might end up with a gold jacket in Canton when it’s all said and done, and he can still be a valuable contributor that rarely misses games on a playoff team. If New England doesn’t address the defensive line in the draft, Suh might need to get his navy blue Patriots jersey fitted.
