Another offseason of uncertainty awaits the New England Patriots, who have a number of star players set to hit free agency in addition to a limited budget. Though last year’s spending spree helped bring New England within a game of winning the AFC East after a lackluster 7-9 campaign, it’s not going to help this time around.

Jonnu Smith and Nelson Agholor appear to be busts, whether it’s their fit in the offense or the fact they’re just not as good as previously advertised. There’s a need for a No. 1 receiver as well as reinforcements in the secondary, even without potential departures.

On top of that, Josh McDaniels is leaving to be the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and running backs coach Ivan Fears is expected to retire, leaving two massive voids on the coaching staff.

How will Bill Belichick navigate another strenuous offseason without Tom Brady for the third time? With just over $7 million in cap space at the moment, some serious adjustments will need to be made if the Patriots wish to remain a playoff contender and keep Mac Jones’ development moving in the right direction.

Patriots 2022 NFL Draft Picks

The 2022 NFL Draft is set to take place from April 28-30 and the Patriots have the 21st overall pick. New England has picks in rounds 1-4 and 6-7 after having traded their fifth-round selection to the Raiders for Trent Brown as well as an additional sixth rounder to the Dolphins for Isaiah Ford. They replenished that sixth-rounder in the Rams-Sony Michel trade.

They recouped a seventh-round selection in the Brown trade, however, after trading one to the Lions for cornerback Michael Jackson. They parted with another seventh-rounder in a trade for Ravens cornerback Shaun Wade.
