Bill Belichick should be considered the greatest coach of all time despite most of his success coming hand in hand with Tom Brady as his quarterback. This season, Belichick did his absolute best coaching job ever.

For starters, Belichick had to make a difficult decision between keeping former MVP Cam Newton as their starting quarterback or go with the rookie Mac Jones. In a move that surprised just about everyone, Belichick cut Newton and handed the reins to Jones. It’s proven to be sagacious.

Jones has been terrific, a bit ineffective at times, but largely a difference-maker for the Patriots thanks to Belichick. The sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer has kept his rookie out of harm’s way and allowed him to manage the game the way he sees fit.

The defense, unsurprisingly, has been off the charts. They finished the regular season ranked second in the league, giving up just 17.8 points per game. They also enjoy a top-six offense.

This upcoming weekend, if Belichick is able to win a playoff game against the Buffalo Bills and keep that momentum going, it’ll solidify our thoughts of the job he’s done this season.
