4. The Patriots stick it to the Jets

Year: 1985

Score: Patriots 26, Jets 14

For the Patriots, in this day and age, it’s all about winning the Super Bowl. With six Lombardi trophies sitting on their mantle, the conversation always switches to when they’ll win another. Yet, no matter how badly they want to collect more hardware, Patriots fans love handing losses to the New York Jets. And, during the 1985 Wild Card Game, they did just that.

Although both squads finished with an 11-5 record, the ’85 Wild Card Game was held on the Jets’ home turf. The Patriots confidently sauntered their way onto the field and proceeded to hand the Jets a 12-point loss. No one on the Patriots needed to be a hero. Tony Eason ended the game with 179 passing yards, Craig James rushed for 49 yards, and Stanley Morgan caught four balls for 62 yards.

The Patriots may have come up short in the Super Bowl that year, but the pain they inflicted on Jets fans that season will forever be priceless.
