Ranking the New England Patriots’ 9 Wild Card Game showdowns
5. Patriots get shown the door by the Jacksonville Jaguars
Year: 1998
Score: Jaguars 25, Patriots 10
It was a rough stretch for the Patriots during the 1998 league year. With their up and down tendencies, the Patriots managed to win nine games, although they did get destroyed by the Jets in the final game of the season.
Regardless of their shaky ending, Patriots fans believed they could stomp into the backyard of the 11-win Jacksonville Jaguars and cause one of the biggest upsets in the playoffs that season during the Wild Card Game. Despite their hubris, they found out how wrong they were rather quickly.
The Jaguars jumped all over the Patriots in the first two quarters, scoring 12 unanswered points. The Patriots made things a bit interesting in the second half by scoring 10 unanswered of their own.
But as soon as Patriots fans began smiling and feeling good about their chances, the Jaguars shut the door, scoring 13 points in the final frame and winning by 15.
