9. Patriots superteam gets blown out by Ravens at home

Year: 2009

Score: Ravens 33, Patriots 14

The 2009 Wild Card Game for the Patriots was an absolute low point for the franchise (for the dynasty’s standards, at least). Tom Brady and Co. were still attempting to shake off the devastation of losing the Super Bowl in 2007 and forfeiting a perfect season in the process. Brady bounced back from a torn ACL in 2008 and earned, at the time, his fifth Pro Bowl selection after throwing for 4,398 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.

Randy Moss was still great, racking up 1,264 receiving yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns. Even their defense was still top-notch, ranking fifth in the league in points per game, giving up only 17.8.

Still, despite the long list of accolades, they were destroyed by the Baltimore Ravens. Brady coughed the ball up three times in the first quarter, which led to a 24-0 lead for the Ravens.

The Patriots could never quite get back into it, scoring just 14 points. If you’re trying to figure out how the Ravens did it, outside of just creating turnovers, they ran the ball right down their throats, finishing the game with 234 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Also, get this, Joe Flacco only needed to complete four of his ten passes for 34 yards and the offense scored 33 points.

To make matters worse, it was the first home loss for the Patriots that season. But no one can truly be surprised. With Brady only racking up 154 yards and hitting the dirt for three sacks, it was the most embarrassing Wild Card loss for the Patriots by far.
