Tom Brady, Julian Edelman send heartfelt messages in wake of Demaryius Thomas’ death

Demaryius Thomas wasn’t a New England Patriot for long, but it’s clear he was the type of personality to make a positive impact no matter where he made a pitstop during his illustrious NFL career.

Late Thursday night, the football world sadly learned of Thomas’ passing. The 33-year-old is believed to have suffered a seizure — which, his family said, had been an issue of his for about a year now — while taking a shower, which police determined after finding him dead in his Georgia home. Heartbreaking.

There’s been an outpouring of support from just about every pocket imaginable. Former teammates and coaches, fans, younger players who idolized Thomas, and even those who crossed paths with him for a moment.

Both Tom Brady and Julian Edelman fall into that last category. Just two seasons ago, they were all in New England together up until Week 1 of the 2019 campaign. Thomas was inactive for that game after spending a good chunk of the offseason with the Pats before he was traded to the New York Jets.

That didn’t prevent the star wide receiver from leaving an unforgettable impression.

Ever since TB12 left New England after that season, it’s been clear he’s embraced any and all positive vibes. His personality has become more distinguished, especially on social media, and he doesn’t waste a single moment during times like these to pay his respects in such instances or express his gratitude for those he’s encountered along the way. His admiration for James White last year epitomized that.

What’s even more impactful is that Thomas’ energy was able to leave an unmistakeable mark on two Patriots legends who were no strangers to seeing players shuffle in an out of the revolving door that is Foxborough.

Thomas spent 10 seasons in the NFL and won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos as Peyton Manning’s top target. He finished with 724 receptions for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns in 143 games. During his postseason career, which has largely been defined by his incredible catch and run (with Tim Tebow as his quarterback!) against the Pittsburgh Steelers in that overtime victory, Thomas caught 53 balls for 759 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games.

His resumé speaks for itself, but it’s obvious that his character was more influential than anything he accomplished on the field.
