Matt Judon zings Mac Jones at Patriots’ postgame presser vs Bills
By Jerry Trotta
The New England Patriots embarrassed the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, as they won by a final score of 14-10 despite attempting just three passes, which is a new franchise record for the fewest attempts in a single game.
The previous record came way back in 1982, when the Patriots dropped back to pass five times in the famous “Snowplow Game” against the Dolphins.
New England won that slugfest 3-0, but it was no thanks to quarterback Steve Grogan, who finished 2-of-5 for 13 yards and an interception.
The same can be said for Mac Jones, though the rookie fared a little bit better than the former lifetime Patriot.
In a vacuum, Jones didn’t contribute to the win. In his defense, though, he executed every handoff to a tee. There’s something to be said for that, right?
Maybe? What we do know, however, is that Matt Judon was ready to zing his quarterback’s performance, or lack thereof, in his postgame presser.
Patriots DE Matt Judon poked fun at Mac Jones’ limited role in Monday night’s win over Buffalo.
It’s important to note that Judon cracked the joke with a smile on his face. The above picture might make it seem like he was actually taking shots at Jones.
Nope. It was all fun and games for the Patriots after this victory, which might be the most impressive of any team this season. Brutal weather conditions or not, Bill Belichick didn’t shy away from his game plan, as New England attempted a season-high 46 rushes for 222 yards.
Averaging 4.8 yards per clip is a legitimately absurd output for a team that had zero intentions to throw the football. Everybody and their mother, including the Bills defense, knew the Pats were going ground ‘n pound on virtually every snap and they still could do nothing about it.
In other words, Belichick had no reason to call Jones’ number. The head coach likely felt less inclined to dial up a run after Jones nearly sailed his first pass over the head of Jonnu Smith, who made a spectacular juggling grab.
Look, if there’s anyone who’s earned the right to take playful jabs at Jones, it’s Judon, who finished the game with three tackles (one for loss), a sack, and two QB hits, and leads the team in virtually every pass-rushing category this season.
It’s unclear how Jones responded to Judon’s zinger, but our guess is the two teammates were able to laugh it off. After all, they currently own the No. 1 seed in the AFC and are in pole position to reclaim their spot atop the AFC East.
