Don’t look now, but the New England Patriots have begun to establish themselves as a contender in the wide-open AFC. They had been trending in that direction for a while, but their demolition of Cleveland confirmed they belong in that conversation.

No, the Browns weren’t fully healthy, but the majority of their starters were out there and they were no match for the Patriots.  It’s that simple.

Mac Jones didn’t rack up a ton of yards, but he was precise in the red zone, which is all that mattered. When the dust settled, the rookie quarterback tossed a career-high three touchdown passes.

Unfortunately for Jones, he wasn’t able to deliver Jakobi Meyers his first-ever touchdown catch. That came with a couple minutes left in the fourth quarter. By that time, the score was well out of reach and Jones had been pulled.

However, that took nothing away from the moment, as the Pats emptied their bench to swarm Meyers in the end zone.

The celebrations continued after the game and a number of players congratulated Meyers for finally getting on the score sheet.

The Patriots are buzzing that Jakobi Meyers has finally caught a TD.

If you’re wondering why Meyers’ teammates are so thrilled for him, he actually owned the record for most receptions (131) and most receiving yards (1,511) by a wideout in NFL history without scoring a touchdown.

Fully aware that Meyers set the record last week, Jones assured the third-year receiver he’d end his scoring drought on Sunday.

"“I told him today, I was like, ‘You’re going to score’ before the game – I didn’t know it was going to come from Hoyer. It was great,” said Jones. “I was super excited. We were out together and the ball – I was so concerned about the ball. I was like, ‘We’ve got to find the ball.’ I guess they found it. That was good. But I think Jakobi is a great teammate and he’s a great team player and that’s much deserved and he’s going to get more.”"

Spoken like a true leader. Sit down haters!

That wasn’t all the love Meyers received postgame. Kendrick Bourne, who finished the game with four catches for 91 yards and a TD, had plenty of positive things to say about his new teammate.

"“I think it was just the highlight of the game,” Bourne told reporters. “How it was all going and, then, to end that way with him getting his first, congrats to my guy. He’s been working so hard. He works hard every day and he deserves it. I told him he might go on a touchdown streak now. It was just dope for him breaking the tackle too and then making the play, but again, shoutout to the whole team executing on the play to make the play happen. It takes everybody.”"

Well, if it was the “highlight of the game” like Bourne said, it probably deserves a second look, right!?

Gets better every time.

Last up in the reaction department was one Bill Belichick. The mild-mannered head coach delivered the response you would expect, giving credit to the entire team while also sprinkling in a little bit of praise for Meyers.

"“It’s great every time we score, but yeah, Jakobi has been a part of a lot of big plays that have put other guys in a position to do that and good to see him score,” Belichick said. “But the most important thing is the contributions that everybody made to the team winning the game and giving a solid performance for four quarters out there. I think everybody’s just happy that that happened, and they should be, because they worked hard to make it happen.”"

As someone who has lauded Meyers every chance he gets, you can tell Belichick was delighted for the 25-year-old.

Regardless of whether Meyers scored, this was going to go down as the win of the season for the Patriots. The fact the former undrafted talent put the icing on the cake, though, made it all the more special.
