Patriots: Tedy Bruschi, Randy Moss throw cold water on Odell Beckham Jr. fit

Adam Schefter showed up to set Sunday ready to make a well-formulated point about Odell Beckham Jr. embodying a perfect fit with the New England Patriots — and, for drama’s sake, the Cleveland Browns are on NE’s horizon next week.

Unfortunately for Schefty, Patriots veterans Randy Moss (supposedly an allegory for OBJ) and Tedy Bruschi both wanted nearly nothing to do with the fit in Year 1 of the Mac Jones Era.

The ESPN crew debated (who else?) Odell on Sunday morning, with the full freedom to name any destination, considering the wideout now seems likely to clear waivers. That’ll make him eligible to sign with any team on Monday — and why not the Patriots?

After all, Bill Belichick is well known for rehabilitating the careers of supposed “problems,” making it extremely clear that the real problem all along was the poorly-run organization the player came from.

Surely, Moss agreed with him? After all, he was once a floundering Raider.

Except…nope. Both Moss and Bruschi made it clear they didn’t believe Beckham was looking for a young QB like Mac Jones, whose playbook has been relatively restricted so far this season.

Bruschi, specifically, worried about what the addition might do to Jones’ development, too.

Remember, this isn’t anywhere near the closing of New England’s window. Do anything you can to give your 4-4 team a chance, but don’t jeopardize the future just to drop a high-impact, needy talent into the middle of your offense, which is still getting its bearings.

Plus, can OBJ play cornerback? We rest our case — and, perhaps more importantly, Bruschi and Moss did, too.

We understand why talking heads like Schefter want to push the Patriots as a destination here. It’s been a while since New England was the center of attention. Instead, the team has mostly been doing its building in the shadows. Schefty misses the spectacle. We get it.

We also understand why fans want Odell on board! He was the most rumored addition of the late Tom Brady Era. Who doesn’t want more excitement?! But if Patriots legends are nervous about the possibility, you should be, too.

So, where’ll he go if the Patriots end up following Moss’ advice and shying away from the pursuit? Don’t count out the Saints, who seem to be connecting more dots than anyone else.

Beckham would be an interesting gift for Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes, too, two QBs in extremely different places from the one young Mac Jones finds himself in.

The Patriots are, against the odds, set up very well for a playoff sprint as the stretch run arrives. Now might not be the best time to shake things up tremendously.
