The parting of ways with Stephon Gilmore was likely to cause the defense to fall off just a bit, but the performance of the secondary in the wake of this deal has been very disheartening. They need someone to step up and be a high-level starter next to JC Jackson, and Fuller could fill that role.

With Denver having lost four straight games in arguably the best division in the league, Vic Fangio and George Paton could look to deal some of their better defensive pieces elsewhere in order to get extra draft picks. A free agent after this year, Fuller could be on the move.

Kyle Fuller could beef up the Patriots’ defense.

Fuller only has one interception in his last 20 games, but he did lead the league in picks one year, and it’s highly unlikely that his ball skills just evaporated right before our very eyes. Fuller could form one of the best cornerback tandems in football next to Jackson, with the two of them suffocating opposing receivers.

The Virginia Tech alum might only cost a mid- or late-round pick given his impending free agency. If Belichick is in a spending mood next offseason, this move allows them to get Fuller in the building and weigh the pros and cons of giving him a hefty multi-year contract in 2022 and beyond.
