Patriots: 3 Mac Jones moments vs Cowboys that should have fans believing
3 Mac Jones moments vs Cowboys that should have fans believing
1. Mac Jones’ short-term memory
One of the dominant storylines entering the game surrounded Mac Jones’ college teammate and Cowboys’ cornerback Trevon Diggs, who has had at least one interception in every game this season. Jones told reporters prior to the game that he planned to respect Diggs, but not fear him.
With New England up 21-20 with possession and under three minutes left in the game, it seemed as if Diggs’ streak would end — that was, until a slightly inaccurate ball thrown by Jones ended up in his hands for 42-yard pick-six.
The Patriots were now down with just over two minutes left and needed a touchdown.
Jones didn’t waste anytime pitying himself, though. Instead, he targeted Diggs the very next play in what was probably the riskiest pass of his young career and it paid off.
Looking back at the touchdown, it was horribly played by the safety. Fortunately, it turned out to be a big play for Jones and the Patriots fan base. Jones provided a much-needed risk for this Patriots offense, and it resulted in their biggest play, which nearly won them the game.
For fans, it showed them that they have a quarterback who can bounce back from the worst moments and make tough passes in high-pressure situations. New England didn’t win last night, but Jones showed he has the skills that will lead to many wins in the future.
