It’s actually…kind of…sort of…nearly the time to get excited about the return of Patriots football!

Is everybody ready? Judging by training camp thus far, N’Keal Harry definitely is, and will likely be making an impression in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Washington Football Team, presuming he isn’t traded first.

Don’t expect to see too much run from New England’s first-teamers in this one, especially considering the notoriously stingy Bill Belichick doesn’t want the league to get any longer look than they have to at what he’s cooking up with so much new personnel this year.

Heck, he probably isn’t happy the footage of Jonnu Smith in the backfield leaked out on the oft-chance that gets attempted more than once this season.

So … will this be the much-ballyhooed debut of Mac Jones for an extended length of time, or will Belichick continue to keep him in the shadows? Will Cam Newton get to show off his current level of arm strength? Or are we approaching four quarters of Hoyer Ball?

Either way, let’s pull up that curtain already! It’s time for the Patriots.

Patriots vs WFT Odds Week 1 Preseason

The Washington Football Team is currently favored in the moneyline at -130 (bet $130 to win $100), though we’d recommend against dropping enough bills to sniff the hundreds on preseason football. The Patriots, at +105 (bet $100 to win $105), seem like a good value play here.

If you prefer working the spread, WFT is favored by 2.5, which you can bet at -116. If you’d like to nab the Patriots to cover the 2.5-point spread, that can be had at -108. Things could very much get wonky in the final minutes with an over/under of 34.5; pound the over at -116 or the under at -108.

Check back for an official update and full injury report closer to game time! As always, though, don’t expect too many starters to get too much unnecessary run in the preseason opener.

Patriots vs WFT Prediction Week 1 Preseason

Odds are we’re going to see a good amount of Jones facing off against Taylor Heinicke, who some Patriots fans wanted to toss money at as the heir apparent to their unoccupied throne this offseason.

Bizarrely enough, the electric Heinicke is more likely to catch lightning in a bottle, and is a safer bet than the rookie who’s probably been instructed to keep the playbook tight. 23-17, Washington.

Patriots Next Game & Schedule

The Patriots will move on to face the Eagles next week (also on Thursday) in their second preseason contest. Week 1 kicks off at 4:25 on Sept. 12, home against the Miami Dolphins.
