Patriots: 3 surprise division rivals who could burn New England
By Jerry Trotta
2. Devin Singletary
Given that the Bills’ roster is stacked with high-end talent, it was difficult to single out one player who could burn the Patriots in 2021.
After thoughtful consideration, however, we decided to give third-year running back Devin Singletary the nod. Entering last season, it looked like Singletary would be fighting for his job in training camp after Buffalo drafted Utah standout Zack Moss in the third round.
The Patriots can’t afford to overlook Devin Singletary in 2021.
After a strong finish to his sophomore season — and Moss being benched in primetime against the 49ers in Week 13 before landing on injured reserve for the Bills’ last two playoff games — however, Singletary should handle the bulk of backfield touches.
While Moss might be more flashy and dynamic than Singletary, there really isn’t much to dislike about the latter’s game. In 28 career games (24 starts), he’s taken 307 carries for 1,462 yards, good for an average of 4.8 yards per, and four touchdowns.
If the Patriots aren’t diligent and focus their attention on containing Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley in the passing game, that could pave the way for Singletary to carve their defense open between the tackles.
