Fans in New England were stunned when they found Bill Belichick, who generally keeps an abnormally low profile during the offseason, agreed to film a commercial for Subway.

The ad debuted in September, and while it goes without saying Belichick doesn’t have a future in film, the coaching legend handled himself pretty well for a first-timer.

We’re not sure what convinced the buttoned-up Belichick to shoot the commercial, especially during the middle of a pandemic.

Maybe he’s a Subway connoisseur. Perhaps the sandwich chain made him an offer he couldn’t turn down. Who knows?

In any event, Belichick now has some competition in the Subway business. If you can believe it, Tom Brady inked an endorsement deal with the popular restaurant.

While Brady is an absolute star when it comes to filming ads, the former longtime Patriots quarterback has never actually stepped foot inside a Subway.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have reunited…in the endorsement industry.

Brady, of course, is known for his restrictive, plant-based diet, so chances are he won’t chow down on a foot-long sub like his former head coach. In fact, according to the Sports Business Journal, Brady won’t even be shown holding a Subway sandwich in the forthcoming ad.

Though it’s awesome to see Belichick and Brady reunited, even if it’s just in the endorsement business, the whole thing seems hypocritical on the latter’s part.

After all, why become Subway’s newest pitchman if you can’t even be bothered to put your hands on one of the the chain’s trademark subs? That doesn’t seem like the best way to expedite sales, but then again, we’re talking about the consensus GOAT football player.

Everything Brady touches turns to gold — he led the Buccaneers, a laughingstock over the last decade, to their first title since 2002 and ended their 12-year playoff drought just months after signing with them in free agency — so this deal is likely to pan out for both parties.

For those wondering, yes, we say that despite what Brady wrote about food companies, like Subway, in his book, “The TB12 Method.”

"“The way I see it, food companies are more like chemical companies than anything else,” Brady wrote. “But we keep eating what they sell us and then wondering why the rates of disease and obesity are so high. Our bodies become toxic when we ingest toxic chemicals.”"

Yikes. For Subway’s sake, let’s hope the commercial’s producers and script writers brainstorm a more appetizing sales pitch.

In all seriousness, this probably isn’t how Patriots fans envisioned Belichick and Brady joining forces again. Of course, the more traditional reunion will take place in October, when Brady and the Bucs lock horns against Belichick and the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Week 4.

Get your popcorn, or Subway foot-longs, ready.
