Patriots: Insane rumor circulating about Cam Newton’s hand injury

The New England Patriots endured a minor scare on the injury front this weekend when quarterback Cam Newton left practice after reportedly hitting his right hand on a helmet while following through on a throw, though it’s unclear exactly what happened.
If there’s a silver lining to be had, the injury isn’t said to be serious and that was confirmed by Newton, who remained at practice to support his teammates, and a follow-up report, which revealed he escaped with a minor bone bruise.
Despite that, however, we’d greatly appreciate knowing the full details regarding how Newton injured himself.
While helmet-to-hand injuries are very common for quarterbacks, the lack of clarity surrounding the injury was especially alarming, even for the Patriots.
Well, in light of all this uncertainty, some truly wild rumors are beginning to circulate about Newton’s hand injury.
One persistent Twitter user was adamant declaring the former MVP suffered the injury during a fight with his brother on Wednesday night.

That’s … certainly interesting. It’s worth noting that zero Patriots reporters or national insiders, for that matter, dignified this rumor with a response, and understandably so given it came from an unverified Twitter account that has just 300 followers and goes by the name “@Jus_Joshinn.”
However, the account’s apparent scoop on Newton’s injury was retweeted by WEEI Radio’s, “Gresh & Keefe,” which seems kind of noteworthy. Whether the show was acknowledging it as potential news or confirming they know something the rest of us don’t remains to be seen.
Either way, the fact this tweet has started making the rounds on social media and the account responded to and tagged the likes of Jeff Howe (The Athletic) and Michael Girardi (NFL Network), two of the most trusted Patriots insiders in the business, suggests questions will be asked during the team’s next press conference.

For now, however, all we can do is speculate and trust the initial reports. After all, when you consider Newton’s peculiar throwing motion, it really isn’t farfetched to think he smacked his throwing hand against an incoming pass rusher’s helmet.
For any fans wondering when Newton will return to practice, the Patriots have four more OTA sessions this week before mandatory minicamp gets underway one June 15. With roughly a month off after that before training camp kicks off near the end of July, which should be enough time for the injury to heal, don’t be surprised if he’s sidelined until training camp.
