The New England Patriots have been an excellent source of content through the first couple months of the offseason.

Not only did they kick things off with a bang in free agency, but they’ve arguably been the most discussed team in the league regarding their plans for the 2021 NFL Draft.

As fans know, the Patriots have been widely tabbed as a destination for one of the top quarterback prospects, though they’ll likely have to trade up several picks out of No. 15 overall to be properly positioned to draft one.

Speaking of the annual showcase, de facto GM Bill Belichick, who’s celebrating his 69th birthday on Friday, held a pre-draft press conference on Thursday. As you might have expected, reporters badgered him with questions about whether he intends on nabbing a quarterback.

In between questions, your typical pleasantries and small talk transpired.

It goes without saying that this is where Belichick tends to make his money as a comedian, and he wasted no time savaging a reporter who merely noted that he had “no complaints” with his current mood.

Patriots GM Bill Belichick savaged a reporter during his pre-draft press conference.

Belichick being in midseason form in front of the microphone proves that he’s ready to absolutely dominate the competition in this draft. It’s just unfortunate Dan Roche of WBZ-TV had to be the fall guy for this epic troll job, but somebody had to be the brunt of the joke.

It also speaks volumes that Belichick was in good spirits during this presser. We honestly thought the pre-draft angst would be eating him alive, but he looked pretty upbeat for somebody with a world of pressure on his shoulders to hit a home run with his first-round pick.

On a more important note, the famous ripped Patriots sweatshirt was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps it’s hanging up in his home office, but can the six-time champion get a little round of applause for that spiffy-looking button down? This is a massive step in the right direction.

As for Roche, he’s actually handling the awkward exchange in stride, going as far as to wish Belichick a happy birthday in a reply tweet that featured an awesome hashtag.

Well, there you have it. Nobody was offended.

In all seriousness, it was awesome to see Belichick, though some of his answers were incredibly dull and political, have a light-hearted approach to this media session. After all, it’s not often fans see the Patriots head coach crack wise during such a pivotal part of the offseason.
