Patriots Draft Option: Staying Put
Bill Belichick and the Patriots are always willing to explore their options on draft day, but one thing that seems consistent is how they value players. They never seem to try and target any specific player.
They really trust their pre-draft scouting process when it comes to rating players. If they have multiple players rated closely, they’ll most likely try to trade back to a position where they can still get one of those guys.
If they have a player rated notably higher than anyone else on their board, they’ll likely stay put and make the selection. Because Coach Belichick usually addresses specific team needs in free agency, that leaves the Patriots with the ability to select their highest-rated player regardless of position.
One player that could be a great fit with the Patriots defense is Penn State LB Micah Parsons. He’s great in coverage for a linebacker, and a move like this could potentially allow Kyle Dugger to play more in the middle of the field.
Another name to look out for is Virginia Tech OL Christian Darrisaw. He has great size and is excellent in both the pass and the run.
While the Pats already have an outstanding group as it is, you can never have too many offensive linemen.
