NFL Draft 2021: Steelers get Big Ben’s heir.

We’re not confident in Mac Jones’ pro prospects based on one Joe Burrow-esque year of dominating the SEC post-pandemic, but if he is a game manager, he’s damned good at it, routinely hitting his star-studded wide receivers right in the numbers.

The arm strength isn’t of a certain pedigree, but the instincts and ability to take care of his weapons are top notch.

So why not give Ben Roethlisberger a little cushion in a heavily-discounted final NFL season.

We don’t think Big Ben is making it through this season intact, so if the Steelers have any intent to contend, they should probably carry Jones as a QB3 behind a more experienced backup. But this team’s need for a signal caller of the future is dire, and they could use someone of Jones’ unique poise, especially all the way down here.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 52. 25. S. TCU. Trevon Moehrig-Woodard

This is what we call a trendy pick.

See, I’m not just listening to the consensus here! I’m also listening to the trendy contrarians. This is the hipster quadrant of this mock draft.

Moehrig-Woodard is a true single-high safety who loves to own the middle of the field and lives to be domineering over an opposing offense. The Texas Christian product is a helium alert candidate, and has been mocked as high as the Dallas Cowboys, who could look locally to fill one of their many defensive gaps.

Instead, we’ll stick with the trend-setters and send this hard-hitter to Duval County.
