Patriots Draft: 3 perfect Day 2 targets Bill Belichick could turn into stars

While Alabama’s Mac Jones has been heavily linked to the Patriots for months, Trask might end up going to New England if they use a first-round pick on a player like Jaylen Waddle. Trask was a Heisman finalist just like Jones, as his 43 touchdowns led the country, but he fell off during the last few games of the season. If central casting wanted someone to play a quarterback in a movie, Trask would be a good selection, as he is 6-5 and 230 pounds with an accurate enough arm on shorter passes to eliminate turnovers.
Trask has two big problems that Belichick and McDaniels will need to work around. First, he has the mobility of a forklift, a trait that limited what Dan Mullen could call with him behind center. Second, despite his size, he doesn’t have tremendous arm talent, as his effectiveness waned the further downfield he threw the ball.
Trask is best served in an offense that quickly gets the ball out of the quarterback’s hand and doesn’t ask him to use his legs to make plays. Given how similar that style sounds when compared to what McDaniels ran for Tom Brady, Trask might develop faster if he goes to the Patriots.
