1. Evan Engram

The Patriots could get a ‘Giant’ lift in the passing game by bringing in this young and promising tight end.

Evan Engram is a player that is always involved in trade rumors for no apparent reason.

Engram is a great pass catching talent and is a matchup nightmare for all defenses in the passing game. He is truly a wide receiver in a tight end’s body. He is a big play threat every time the ball is thrown his way, and can run faster and jump higher than many defenders tasked with defending him.

Like David Njoku, Engram struggled with blocking early on in his career but has steadily improved and has become more reliable than ever in the blocking game.

Most clearly of all, this is another young guy that Bill Belichick would be able to get the most out of; he has all the tools to be part of a dynamic offense that is still a Belichick offense, and he needs a change of scenery after a Pro Bowl year in which Giants fans were unable to ignore his drops.

At $6 million for one year, if he truly is available, the Patriots should be in the mix.

Is a trade the best route for the Patriots’ search for their tight end of the future?

All of the aforementioned players could improve the Patriots’ offense mightily and would be immediate threats in the passing game. None of them are monster hits to the cap, but all have one year left on their deals.

These three guys would be great lined up with Devin Asiasi in two tight end sets, and would create mismatch problems all game for opposing defenses.

Any of these guys would be great to see in a Patriots uniform – though there is a TE coming out of Florida though that could end up being better than any of Ertz, Njoku or Engram. It may be best to use draft capital on the position and put some time and effort into 2020 draftee Asiasi.
