Patriots: 3 best offseason trade destinations for Stephon Gilmore
2. New York Giants
The Giants could use a star veteran like Stephon Gilmore in their secondary.
Bill Belichick doing business with the team that prevented him from becoming even more of an undisputed legend?! Well, yeah, they’re in an entirely different conference and the Pats could stand to benefit from the Giants’ earlier picks in the mid-rounds (they’ll have the No. 11 overall selection).
The Giants’ defense made massive strides this year, but they could still use another reliable corner opposite star James Bradberry. New York will likely prioritize drafting pass rusher in the first or second round given the depth this year, so trading for another defensive back might help them cut a corner. Add Gilmore, move Julian Love to the slot, and that could be a stacked secondary with Logan Ryan, Jabrill Peppers and Xavier McKinney at safety.
If we learned anything from the NFC East this year, it’s that nobody is ready to run away with the division. The Washington Football Team won it all at 7-9 and it’s clear they’ll have plenty of issues at the QB position come 2021. The Eagles are dead to rights (at least that’s what it feels like) and the Cowboys will always find a way to blow it.
So why don’t the Giants really push the envelope, make their defense even stingier, and hope it helps out Daniel Jones and the offense? It’s worth a shot, and they’ll also have a reasonable amount of cap space to give Gilmore an extension.
