Injured Patriots WR Julian Edelman dished out perfect advice to Jakobi Meyers after he threw a touchdown pass against Baltimore.

If we know anything about Julian Edelman, it’s that he hates everything about being unable to play for the New England Patriots during this crucial stretch of games. The 34-year-old vet was placed on injured reserve at the start of the month after undergoing a knee procedure and has seemingly been supplanted as the No. 1 wide receiver by breakout star Jakobi Meyers, who’s led the team in receiving in four straight games.

In another example of true leadership, however, Edelman has been cheering on his teammates from a distance since going on the shelf, and that continued during Sunday night’s season-defining win over Baltimore.

The play of the game came near the end of the first half when Meyers, a former quarterback recruit himself, connected with running back Rex Burkhead for a 24-yard touchdown on a perfectly-executed trick play to give the Patriots a 13-10 lead.

Clearly ecstatic watching the play unfold, Edelman took to Twitter to dish out some awesome advice to Meyers about keeping his right arm fresh after the beautifully-weighted touchdown strike.

Edelman, of course, has been in Meyers’ position numerous times through his career, and quarterback Cam Newton acknowledging him during his postgame session with reporters was the ultimate capper to a perfect night.

Like Meyers, Edelman played QB in college before being converted into a receiver and is one of the few skill position guys in the NFL who actually has respectable passing stats at the pro level. For his career, the former seventh-round pick is a perfect 6-of-6 for 128 yards, one touchdown and five first downs.

For all of you statistical junkies out there, those numbers equate to a mind-boggling 97.7 QBR and 158.8 passer rating. If there’s anybody who knows a thing or two about keeping arms fresh for the occasional Josh McDaniels trick play, it’s Edelman, so Meyers should take his advice to heart and hop in an ice bath as soon as possible.

In all seriousness, it’s awesome to see Edelman heap praise on and give advice to his teammates while he pushes through his recovery process. It remains to be seen when exactly he’ll be cleared to return, but we hope it’s soon, because the Patriots desperately need somebody to relieve some of the receiving burden on Meyers, who’s been a one-man wrecking crew over the the last month.

In the meantime, you can bet that Edelman, whether it be on social media or the sidelines, will continue serving up words of encouragement to his Patriots teammates.
