Patriots: Jakobi Meyers’ comments on career game will make you happy

Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers’ comments on his career game against the Jets will make fans smile.
Fans in New England are likely relieved that the Patriots ended their four-game skid on Monday night, but they cannot be thrilled that it look a last-second field goal to avoid an historic upset at the hands of the winless Jets.
However, a win is a win, and we’re going to focus on some of the positives here. It goes without saying that two of the few bright spots for the Patriots were quarterback Cam Newton and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who proved once again that their chemistry is budding into something special.
Newton has obviously been here before, but Meyers? Not so much. The third-year pro made his third career start and made you wonder by the end of it why he hadn’t been deployed as the top wideout from the start of the season.
On his 24th birthday no less, he set new career-highs in receptions (12), targets (14) and yards (169). After the game, Meyers was admirably humble while speaking to reporters about his breakout performance and fans should commend his mindset.
Meyers saying that he’s taking advantage of his opportunities is an understatement, as he’s quietly — on a national scale, that is — emerged as Newton’s top target. The former MVP constantly looked Meyers’ way down the stretch, and their combination would’ve been even more impressive had Newton not overthrown him on a deep route early in the fourth quarter.
It was really only fitting that Newton found Meyers for a 20-yard completion with about eight seconds remaining to set up the game-winning field goal as time expired. That’s simply how un-coverable he was. After playing 22 snaps over the last three games, the former undrafted talent has burst onto the scene with a 92% snap share across the last three weeks racking up 22 receptions on 30 targets for 287 yards during that stretch.
Eventually in the postgame interview, Meyers admitted just how fun it was posting the best game of his young career in a win in primetime.
How can you not root for this guy?
Meyers has been nothing short of sensational since Julian Edelman (knee) and N’Keal Harry (concussion) went down with injuries two weeks ago, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would be out of his mind not to keep him the primary focus in the passing game when they reenter the fold.
