Dr. Jill Biden went after the Patriots at a Joe Biden campaign rally in Pennsylvania this weekend. Shots fired!

There’s no surer way to create an “Us vs. Them” mentality in Pennsylvania than by evoking the mighty New England Patriots, who’ve destroyed the Steelers for two full decades.

So it’s no surprise that Dr. Jill Biden took to the podium at a campaign rally for her husband Joe Biden on Saturday, and rallied the Bucks County supporters around a common enemy: the unbeatable Pats.

Biden, a Philadelphia area native, tried to drum up support for her husband’s campaign by splitting the difference and getting some Pittsburghers to realize that they had more in common with Philly than they likely thought. After all, find me a Pennsylvanian who loves the Patriots, and I’ll show you someone who should simply relocate to Boston.

Shots fired!

Of course, the Patriots vs. Biden battle is a little more complicated than a Pennsylvania thing, and the fight has nothing to do with Tom Brady’s repeated snubs of Nick Foles.

Even though Brady has now departed for the state of Florida, he created a fervor in 2016 when he was spotted with a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker as the election heated up.

And President Trump not only received an endorsement from Bill Belichick back in 2016, but has repeatedly cited the coach as an inspiration and a friend, and has mused about whether Belichick would make a good military general.

No matter which side of the aisle Patriots fans fall on, you can’t deny the drawing power of the Pats to drum up angry enthusiasm.

The Patriots name has become synonymous with dynastic victory, and thanks to the Belichick and Brady associations, they’ve also found themselves as a stand-in for the political enemy.

With just 10 days remaining before election day, this probably won’t be the last time we see the local team used as a hated prop.
