Patriots fans can rejoice. Cam Newton will be returning to practice on Thursday.

Though Cam Newton’s status was trending in the right direction for Week 6, nothing was set in stone and New England Patriots fans were getting a bit worried as we approached Thursday with no concrete updates.

Another game featuring Brian Hoyer and/or Jarrett Stidham? Please, no. We can’t do that again, especially after what we saw against the Kansas City Chiefs. If not for detrimental play at the QB position, the Patriots might’ve taken home the W.

No need to worry (as much) anymore, however, Patriots fans. According to the latest reports, Newton will return to the team on Thursday, which is when New England will conduct its first practice since Stephon Gilmore’s positive COVID-19 test.

It’s been a tough few weeks for Patriots fans, and with Drew Lock nearing his return to the Denver Broncos, this couldn’t be better timing for New England. Newton’s been away from the team for almost two weeks — Friday will be 14 days since he tested positive for COVID-19, sending the organization into a frenzy.

But Bill Belichick and the Pats have went above and beyond to try and prevent an outbreak. They took two planes to Kansas City just to be safe; they requested extra locker room space at Arrowhead Stadium (but were denied); and they ensured everyone’s safety by working out in shifts and conducting virtual meetings ever since Gilmore’s positive test.

Now, Newton’s on the mend and he’ll likely return against a struggling Broncos team. A rusty Newton is lightyears better than a Hoyer/Stidham platoon. Another week of uncertainty might’ve driven Pats fans up a wall.

The Patriots are getting their team leader back during a time when everything’s been out of sorts and that should be more than enough to get the Patriots back on track mentally as well as on the field.
