Patriots HC Bill Belichick’s mother, Jeannette, sadly passed away on Tuesday.
We all know that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would love nothing more than to spend all of this time preparing for the team’s Week 2 clash against the Seattle Seahawks. However, he will understandably need to take a few personal days leading up to the Sunday night showdown.
It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of Belichick’s mother, Jeannette, who died of natural causes in Annapolis, Maryland on Monday, according to multiple reports.
She was 98 years old.
Jeannette met Steve Belichick, who passed away at 85 back in 2005, and the two got married in August of 1950. Bill, an only child, was born two years later. The couple met at Hiram College in Ohio about a decade earlier, where Jeanette was a Spanish and French teacher and Steve was the head football and basketball coach.
To honor the legacy of his parents, Belichick made a donation to the school which reportedly included the “Jeanette Munn Belichick ’42 Endowed Fund,” that helped the campus library buy books and other materials related to foreign languages. The six-time champion‘s gesture also included a new training center and a reading room in the library, both of which contained an engraving of his parent’s names.
According to NESN reporter Doug Kyed, Belichick’s press conference scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed until Thursday morning in light of his mother’s passing, as expected.
We have a feeling the Patriots are going to play extra hard for their head coach in their highly-anticipated primetime matchup against Seattle. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill and the entire Belichick family during this difficult time.
