Patriots QB Brian Hoyer said the team hasn’t changed with Tom Brady gone.

For any Patriots fans wondering when we’d get our first juicy quote from training camp regarding how the offense looks following the departure of Tom Brady, well, the wait is over.

Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer, who’s entering his third season in New England, acknowledged during a recent interview that the coaching staff hasn’t made any big adjustments to the scheme and formations in the wake of Brady choosing to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

That speaks volumes when you consider that the Patriots will roll with a new starting signal caller for the first time in two decades.

"“No not really, I mean look there’s 20 years of foundation in this offense and I think the one thing that I’ve realized is each year that I’ve been a part of the team the offense is a little bit different you adjust to your players your personnel the defense’s scheme and I think that’s the great thing about this offense, it’s always evolving. I think there’s a great group of core plays and formations and things that we have and I think on a weekly basis that’s what we do the best — go in and see what we need to do to attack the defense,” Hoyer told reporters Monday."

All told, Hoyer’s quote wasn’t so much a shot at Brady as it was a compliment to NE’s stability and current assortment of talent. After all, he worked under the three-time MVP for four seasons and clearly has the utmost respect for him.

Hoyer doesn’t expand upon a ton here, which confirms that he’s adopted the Patriot Way, but he did reveal a spicy little tidbit by saying the offense is evolving. Could the 34-year-old be hinting at how Cam Newton, who returned to practice on Tuesday, has impacted the schemes head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have been drawing up?

He certainly could be. Whatever the case, here’s Hoyer’s full (nearly 15-minute) video conference from Monday:

The Michigan State product impressively kept a straight face for nearly the entire segment, so credit to him for making it impossible to read his emotions. In all seriousness, the main takeaway here is that fans in NE should sleep like babies tonight knowing that the Patriots are getting by just fine without Brady.
