Patriots OL Joe Thuney’s hand/arm injury should concern the fanbase.

The New England Patriots’ revamped offensive line is going to be key to the team’s success this season. After all, keeping quarterback Cam Newton upright should be the number one priority. If he’s healthy, there’s no reason to think the Patriots couldn’t make the playoffs, especially in an average (at best) AFC East.

The return of center David Andrews, who missed the entirety of 2019 due to blood clots in his lungs, coupled with a (hopefully) full campaign from left tackle Isaiah Wynn could really propel New England and help the line forget about the loss of Marcus Cannon.

However, the latest update from one of the unit’s stalwarts is anything but encouraging. According to Michael Girardi of NFL Network, star guard Joe Thuney had a heavy wrap on his hand on Friday after suffering an injury on Thursday.

This could all just be precautionary, but fans in New England should definitely be a bit concerned about Thuney’s status with Week 1 barely over two weeks away.

We hate to be alarmists, but there hasn’t been much reported on his injury. That’s never a good sign, and when you consider the Patriots’ tumultuous offseason thus far, you really can’t help but think that the former third-round pick could possibly miss time.

As of this writing, all we can tell you is that Thuney was slow to get up after a play during the scrimmage and walked off the field under his own power to go meet with the team trainer.

The Patriots clearly have big plans for Thuney in 2020 as they’ve reportedly been working him out at several different positions since training camp started. To say that his versatility will be crucial to the group’s success would be an understatement, so stay tuned for updates on his status.
