Patriots QB Cam Newton is having a good time getting to know his teammates.
We don’t mean to keep hyping up the Cam Newton signing, but seriously, what better personality could the New England Patriots have brought in to succeed Tom Brady? Newton is outgoing and hardworking, which has been on full display ever since he began practicing with his new teammates.
He’s getting to know his new friends too, and he’s having a good time doing it. He’s been working with quite a few of these guys for over a month now — one of whom is Julian Edelman — so many of these relationships are past the “acquaintance” phase.
Cam’s in full nickname mode, so get ready for the entire offense to have wacky monikers before Week 1.
From the lighter side: Julian Edelman, on @TheGregHillShow show, relays that Cam Newton refers to him by the nickname “Highway 11.”

Can we get a t-shirt that says “Super Cam to Highway 11” with a picture of their first touchdown connection together? We’d like to venture Newton will be taking that road fairly often in 2020.
If you thought that one was good, how about what he’s calling second-year WR N’Keal Harry now?
Patriots WR N’Keal Harry was called “Doughboy” by Cam Newton, which brought a smile to his face during his media interview today.

“Cam has nicknames for everybody. It’s all love at the end of the day,” Harry says. pic.twitter.com/lYF2iSdvs5
We’ll have to ask Cam to expand upon the reasoning for this one, but one can assume it’s because Harry is a large man, standing at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. Doesn’t seem doughy to us!
This is clearly all in good fun, especially what we know about Newton up until this point in his career. He’s always been talkative, humorous and engaging, so it’s only fitting he’s brought those characteristics to New England. Plus, when you’re the first one in and last one out, we think you’ve earned the privilege to hand out nicknames however you please.
Jason McCourty, to @TheGregHillShow, on Cam Newton: “Every morning you come in, and you walk by his locker - whether it’s 6 am, 5:30 am - his locker is already open, he’s already here. And when you’re getting ready to leave, you see him with Patriots gear on doing something.”

Who’s going to be next? Let’s hope it’s Bill Belichick. The head coach knew what he was getting into signing Cam, so he better be ready to take on a new nickname.
