A Patriots beat writer’s picture of Jarrett Stidham got mistaken for a funny dig at the young quarterback.

For any avid social media users out there that have been lobbying for Twitter to install a more functional cropping feature, well, this humorous story is only going to amplify your complaints.

Patriots beat writer Ryan Hannable of WEEI unfortunately experienced the issues with its lack of versatility at the team’s latest practice. While trying to provide his followers with an update on Jarrett Stidham, who’s battling a leg/hip injury and has been limited at practice recently, he truly could not have been positioned worse.

Though the photo does show the 24-year-old quarterback walking out to practice with no pads on, he was in the background. Care to guess what was picture in the front of the shot? A trash can, of all things.

You honestly can’t make this stuff up. Of course, it appears as though Hannable is taking a shot at the 2019 fourth-round pick. That obviously wasn’t the case. He was just the victim of some unfortunate positioning.

As you might have expected, Twitter didn’t hesitate to (light-heartedly) rip the WEEI reporter apart. The response from NFL Network insider Michael Giardi in particular is guaranteed to generate some laughs among Patriots Nation.

He’s got a point! Not that Hannable is an expert photographer or anything, but he shouldn’t be blaming his surroundings. Maybe zooming in on the field so the trash can was cropped out of the picture should have been the move?

In all seriousness, this playful nugget — not that something like this happens often — is what makes training camp so beloved. We are so happy Patriots football is back. The first game of the 2020 season really cannot come soon enough.
