Patriots: Earl Thomas-Ravens drama is music to Bill Belichick’s ears

The Patriots must be loving Earl Thomas’ drama with Baltimore.

We hate to bring back bad memories, but remember when Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans waltzed into Foxborough and upset the New England Patriots in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs last year?

You might recall Henry rushing for 182 yards and a touchdown, putting the Titans on his back en route to a 20-13 victory. The win set Tennessee up with a clash against Baltimore. Leading up to that matchup, Ravens safety Earl Thomas took a jab at the Patriots, saying the defense “didn’t seem too interested” in tackling Henry.

As we know, the Titans cinderella run continued as they pulled off the monster upset in convincing fashion. Henry once again balled out, rushing 30 times for 192 yards, which included a poetic stiff arm on Thomas before darting past him on the sidelines.

Amazingly enough, it’s been all downhill for Thomas since he came at the Patriots in that press conference. On Friday, the seven-time Pro Bowler was sent home from Baltimore’s facility after getting in a fight with teammate Chuck Clark.

You just know that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who loves nothing more than holding a grudge, is holding back a smug grin while watching Thomas’ fall from grace (that isn’t an exaggeration) unfold.

We’re not saying the six-time champion is rooting for the 31-year-old’s career to go off the rails, but you can’t sit there and tell us that he didn’t keep the receipts from that press conference last January.

On top of that, what if Belichick scoops Thomas up if the Ravens release him? The team does have a need at safety (kind of) after Patrick Chung opted out of the 2020 season. This was the immediate reaction on social media, but we’re not sure this happens given the fact New England is trying to avoid more attention-grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons.

But we’re just sayin’, this kind of move is right up Belichick’s alley. Maybe he brings in Thomas, jabs him for getting owned by Henry, tells him he can’t talk trash about the Pats anymore, and then makes him line up in the secondary of the best defense in the NFL.

It truly cannot be ruled out.
