Former Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan is signing with the Jets after a year with the Panthers.

There’s no doubt New England Patriots fans loved Chris Hogan’s three-year stint with the team that featured two Super Bowl victories. But before the start of last season, the Pats front office opted not to re-sign Hogan, and the veteran wideout made it known on Twitter that he had to move on as well.

He signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers and was already looking for a new home this offseason. It took him a while to sign, but he’s finally put pen to paper.

In a sad turn of events, Hogan is signing with the New York Jets.

Oh, no! Not with our most hated and WORST division rival! Why?! It won’t be easy for Patriots fans to stomach watching Hogan waste away in the meadowlands. He does now have a promising young QB in Sam Darnold throwing to him, but we all know how the Jets are masterful at wasting talent.

Though Hogan had Brady throwing to him from 2016-2018, he was one of the biggest X-factors in the NFL. He led the league in yards per reception back (17.9) in 2016 — his best season by far — and finished the year with 38 catches for 680 yards and four touchdowns. Shifty wideout AND a former lacrosse star. The ultimate Patriot.

Then came the postseason, which culminated in the Patriots’ historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons. In three games during that run. Hogan caught 17 balls for 332 yards and two touchdowns. While he contributed in every game, his nine receptions for 180 yards and two scores against the Steelers in the AFC title game put him in the Pats history books.

But you know what? At the end of the day, we can still peacefully cheer Hogan on in New York. After all, the Jets won’t be doing anything significant and will far from threaten the Patriots for the division crown.

It’s just upsetting to see things turn out this way, though.
