Patriots WR Julian Edelman finally addressed Tom Brady’s departure.

A few months ago, the drama surrounding the New England Patriots was seemingly never-ending. Though fans were in denial, rumors indicated that Tom Brady had made up his mind on testing free agency before negotiating a new contract with the organization.

When the dust settled, Brady left town to sign with the Buccaneers and ultimately persuaded tight end Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement and force a trade to Tampa Bay.

The subsequent fallout suggested that the two superstars kept Julian Edelman out of the loop on their plans and it reportedly didn’t sit well with the 34-year-old wide receiver, who briefly unfollowed the three-time MVP on social media after the blockbuster trade.

Fans in New England have since been waiting for Edelman to address TB12’s departure, and the 11-year veteran did just that on Monday in his first media session since January.

Edelman didn’t speak to reporters during the Patriots’ first presser of training camp, but only a few players were scheduled for that segment. While he didn’t provide the monologue and emotional tribute to Brady that so many fans have been clamoring for over the last five months, this quote should provide them with closure.

The three-time Super Bowl champion said he holds no grudges against Brady, who he still views as a big brother and lifelong friend, but he’s also ready to put his head down and embrace the role as the new veteran leader in New England’s locker room.

“It’s definitely crazy,” Edelman told reporters. “I can remember like it was yesterday when I was a rookie. Time flies when you’re having fun. Wise old vet now, I guess.”

If there was ever a time for Patriots Nation to stop worrying about how Brady’s departure could potentially affect Edelman’s play in 2020, it’s now. Not only will the former seventh-round pick be tasked with more leadership, but he’ll also have to carry the load as New England’s undisputed top wide receiver.
