1. Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys have thoroughly miscalculated their contract negotiations with Dak Prescott. It normally wouldn’t be a huge deal that the 27-year-old quarterback will play the upcoming season under the franchise tag, but reports indicated that, even despite a last-ditch effort, both sides weren’t even close in agreeing to terms on an extension before the July 15 deadline.

We don’t doubt that Dak would still like to sign a long-term deal with Dallas, but you have to think that his relationship with the organization was strained a bit this offseason. That could open the door for potential suitors in free agency to pursue him next year.

With Cam Newton seemingly playing to ink a lucrative contract elsewhere, the Patriots could once again be in the market for a QB next March. Even if Newton wants to stay in New England, there’s no denying that Prescott is the better long-term play.

Not only has the two-time Pro Bowler never missed a start, but he’s also four years younger and less turnover prone. New England shouldn’t overthink the prospect of reaping the rewards of the Cowboys’ colossal gaffe in failing to lock Prescott down.
