The New England Patriots released their 2020 player headshots on Monday.

The New England Patriots signing Cam Newton was arguably the most intriguing move of the NFL offseason. For starters, he’s dealt with injuries the last two campaigns and is trying to regain his footing in the league after being unceremoniously released by the Carolina Panthers, who drafted him No. 1 overall back in 2011.

There’s also the compelling narrative that Newton is taking the reins from franchise legend Tom Brady, who famously departed in free agency. While we won’t be able to see the former MVP take the field for New England for over a month, assuming the season is played and starts on time, fans in Foxborough were treated to the next best thing late Monday night.

That’s right, folks. The Patriots shared their 2020 player headshots, which means we got to see Newton in his new threads for the first time.

Fine, it might not look as awesome as some of the photoshops that have surfaced on social media over the last month, but this is still cool. It feels weird to say since we’re so used to Newton in the Panthers’ baby blue color scheme — plus Brady has been quarterbacking the Patriots for the last 20 years — but the 31-year-old just looks right in this uniform, no?

Newton’s first official practice with New England won’t come until mid-August thanks to the delayed training camp schedule, which was set on the heels of the makeshift virtual offseason program amid the global pandemic.

However, the three-time Pro Bowler has already showed motivation to become familiar with the new playbook as he’s taken part in several throwing sessions with Patriots wide receivers in recent weeks.

Watching eight players opt out (with potentially more to come) was undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow for the fan base, but New England natives should be stoked seeing Newton’s first photo in a Patriots uniform.
