Patriots DB Stephon Gilmore’s reaction after finding out his 99 overall rating in Madden is awesome.

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is hands down one of the best defensive players in the NFL, and it appears that the latest installment of the famed Madden franchise will recognize him as such.

This week, it was revealed that the two-time All-Pro will be one of the few players to make the exclusive 99 Club.

What makes this narrative all the more sweet for fans in Foxborough is Gilmore’s raw reaction.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year learned of the big news in a surprise video celebration with his family, and to call the clip wholesome would be an understatement.

The fact that his wife, Gabrielle, and two kids were in on the surprise reveal is just awesome. If this doesn’t make you smile, then nothing will.

As of this writing, Gilmore is one of four players — Chiefs gunslinger Patrick Mahomes, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey — to receive a 99 overall rating.

It’s nothing less than Gilmore deserved, as he was indisputably the NFL’s most formidable corner in 2019. Quarterbacks were often smart enough to avoid throwing his way, but when they did, he made them regret it. For the year, the three-time Pro Bowler recorded 53 tackles, a league-leading six interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, and a whopping 20 passes defended.

A lot will be expected of Gilmore after his superhuman display last season, and we fully expect him to live up to that billing. Like a fine wine, the 29-year-old stud seems to get better with age.
