Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez want Patriots owner Robert Kraft to help them out with the New York Mets.

Robert Kraft has a reputation as a franchise savior and deal maker. Without his ingenuity, it’s likely the Patriots would not have thrived in New England like they have, and would instead have been banished to Hartford.

A large part of the team’s successful branding (apart from, you know, all the winning) has been Patriot Place, a mecca in the middle of nowhere that includes a shopping center, bars, restaurants, and anything a Patriots fan could ever want, a stone’s throw away from the state-of-the-art stadium.

Apparently, this idea very much intrigued former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

As part of his bid to buy the New York Mets, A-Rod reportedly brought a top JP Morgan banker along with him to swing a meeting with Mr. Kraft recently, in an effort to get him on board with running Citi Field, the home of the Mets, in a proposed package deal.

Is it a great idea? Sure, if the Patriots owner is on board. There’s a lot of land to work with in Flushing, and a rabid fan base waiting to be fed…something.

According to those in the know, Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez flew to Foxborough on July 9 to meet with Bob and Jonathan Kraft, and the resulting meeting lasted five full hours.

It’s Rodriguez’s vision to build up Willets Point in Flushing in similar fashion, making it a postgame destination and concert location, in conjunction with his wife’s expertise. And who better to explain how that gets done than Kraft, a mastermind of the same game?

After all, is it any more ridiculous to create a destination venue 30 minutes from Manhattan by train than it was to do so in suburban Massachusetts?

Whether Kraft hops on board or not, we cannot speculate. But the man certainly knows how to get this specific job done, and we hope that billionaire Steve Cohen loses out to A-Rod’s power-packed bid so we can see his vision enacted.
