Patriots: Mohamed Sanu Has No Choice But to Back up NSFW Comments
New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu badly needs a rebound season in 2020.
Bill Belichick hasn’t entirely been making the best trades in recent years, and perhaps none embody that more than the New England Patriots’ acquisition of Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons last season.
With Tom Brady in need of more weapons, Belichick seemingly made a prudent move in getting Sanu for a second-round pick. However, the immediate returns were a disaster, with the former Rutgers star catching 26 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown in eight games with the Pats. That. Is. Bad.
Now Sanu will have a new quarterback in Cam Newton come 2020 (his fourth QB in two years), and the two have already started working out together. The veteran wideout is hell bent on having a rebound campaign this upcoming year, and quite frankly, he doesn’t really have a choice considering the stakes.

“It’s tough when you learn things over and over and you memorize things like it’s the back of your hand and you have to completely forget all the things, terminology in 24 hours, something you’ve known for 3.5 years,” he said on Atlanta’s The Game 92.9 in Atlanta recently. “It is what it is. When you’re a top elite athlete you’re supposed to adjust and pick it up. It was tough at first and adversity hit, but it is what it is. Right now, I am where I want to be. I didn’t play the best that I felt like I could have last year and that is on me. I internalized that and that’s fine. I accepted it, just know I am not letting that sh– happen again.”
The 30-year-old is in a contract year and this could be his final opportunity to earn a good chunk of change before his career is over. Plus, he needs to produce for the sake of the Patriots. If he’s unreliable once again, who is Newton going to throw the ball to? The former MVP won’t be immune to the issues Brady experienced last year.

The good news is that a lot of Sanu’s problems last season could be attributed to a nagging ankle injury that required surgery this offseason. As you can see on social media, he’s all healed up and shouldn’t have any restrictions as we near training camp.

It feels like a do-or-die year for Sanu, and it couldn’t have come a better time given the circumstances in New England. He’ll be playing with one of the best quarterbacks in the league on a hungry Patriots team led by the greatest coach in the sport. Pats fans should like how this all lines up.
