Terrence Brooks

Terrence Brooks was solid if not spectacular during his first season with the Patriots in 2019. He finished third among New England safeties in total tackles behind Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung (but ahead of Duron Harmon).

The 28-year-old former Jet also had three pass deflections and one interception (off ex-teammate Sam Darnold in the October game against New York).

While Brooks would seemingly be in store for an even larger role in 2020 with Harmon now a Lion, he’ll be challenged for reps this year by two new arrivals on the Patriots roster: ex-Charger Adrian Phillips and 2020 first-round draft pick Kyle Dugger.

Phillips seems like the most logical candidate to immediately slide in as the third starting safety alongside McCourty and Chung — assuming he doesn’t just totally flame out this training camp or fail to grasp the New England defense. With Dugger’s draft pedigree, it could mean Brooks is left as the odd man out when all is said and done.
