Patriots: 5 players who will enter training camp on roster bubble
Brandon Copeland
When Brandon Copeland signed a $1.1 million contract to join the Patriots in free agency back in March, it appeared like he was on the fast track to help replace some of the production lost from the departed LB trio of Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins Sr, and Elandon Roberts.
All that has changed now in light of April’s NFL Draft.
New England selected Josh Uche out of Michigan with the 60th overall pick and then Alabama’s Anfernee Jennings with the 87th overall pick. The two outside linebackers were immediately inserted into the second-string projection for the Patriots depth chart behind presumed 2020 starters like Chase Winovich, John Simon, and Ja’Whaun Bentley.
Copeland still has more experience than Uche and Jennings — as well as Wyoming inside linebacker Cassh Maluia, another 2020 draft selection — but he could be challenged for roster relevancy if some of these youngsters come on this summer.
