Quarterback

Although it’s only the offseason, it’s quite rare to see four quarterbacks on the roster for the New England Patriots.

The Patriots have brought in some competition for second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham by signing veteran free agent Brian Hoyer, who is now in his third stint with the team, J’mar Smith, who just won the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award last year at Louisiana Tech, and Brian Lewerke, who has won multiple MVP honors in bowl games while playing for Michigan State.

Even through all of this, Bill Belichick is taking the same approach as he typically does in regards to roster management and who he puts on the field for the Patriots — even if it is a high priority position such as the quarterback.

Here’s what he had to say about the QB position this upcoming season, per Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston:

"“Whoever the quarterback is, we’ll try to make things work smoothly and efficiently for that player and take advantage of his strengths and his skills. Each of us has different skills. Each quarterback has a different skill set, and whatever things that particular player does well, we’ll try to work towards and feature, or at least give him an opportunity to do those.”"
