The New England Patriots gave their defense a much-needed upgrade heading into the 2020 season. Here is what the depth chart will look like!

The New England Patriots went back to their original blueprints by focusing on addressing their defensive needs in the 2020 NFL Draft. In doing so, the Patriots used their first three out of 10 draft picks to target defensive players — including four in total for the entire weekend.

The Patriots’ draft included a handful of trades that didn’t look so pretty in the moment, but the draft ultimately added some much needed depth to a mildly depleted defense that lost too many of its key players and starters during free agency this offseason.

The Pats entered the draft with a retooling mindset. The way they approached this offseason was very reminiscent of the way they approached the 2002 offseason with a young and raw Tom Brady under center. We learned then that the best weapon that any team can provide to a young quarterback is a solid and reliable defense.

In realization of this, the Patriots have done an excellent job of trying to equip Jarrett Stidham with a strong defense — as well as giving the defensive unit a much needed upgrade with a slew of fresh, young, and talented players through this year’s draft.

A lot of things need to go a certain way for the Patriots to be successful this season. Many people are under the assumption that the future of the Patriots lies on the shoulders of Stidham — when in all actuality, the future of the Pats lies on the collective shoulders of the defense.

Here is a look at what the depth chart could look like for the New England Patriots in 2020.
