The New England Patriots could be on the verge of losing their offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, in the upcoming offseason.

After Josh McDaniels agreed to leave the New England Patriots to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts – and then withdrew himself on the same day back in 2018- the New England Patriots offensive coordinator is in position to yet again become a head coach in the NFL.

The stunt McDaniels pulled with the Colts had many people thinking he would never get a head coaching opportunity again. But the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and the Dallas Cowboys have all expressed interest in McDaniels regarding their vacant head coach positions.

Regardless of what the stat sheets show about New England’s offense, this may have been Josh McDaniels’ best season as a coordinator. McDaniels has tried just about everything he can think of to move the ball down the field with the talent he has on the team.

Unfortunately, with all the moving pieces and injuries this season, the offense just couldn’t get on the same page this season. Perhaps there’s still time during the postseason…

It’s important to remember Josh McDaniels has experience as a head coach. McDaniels left New England in 2009 to pursue his head coaching career with the Denver Broncos. After just a season and a half, the Broncos fired McDaniels part-way through his second season with the team after starting the season with a 3-9 record.

McDaniels is experienced and has always been somewhat of a hot commodity in the NFL. At one point, McDaniels was considered to be an “offensive genius” even. He’s obviously shown interest in wanting to be a head coach some day; this could be his best opportunity yet.

Let’s take a look at some of the teams who are looking for a new head coach and who could possibly be interested in the great offensive playcaller, and what’s so appealing about them.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have a great young quarterback in Kyle Allen, and an elite running back in Christian McCaffrey, to go along with a young and rising receiving group with a familiar face in veteran Chris Hogan. Not to forget about a defense led by standout linebacker Luke Kuechly, as well.

New York Giants

The Giants should be an intriguing team for any coach on the market right now. Daniel Jones has looked like a stud during his rookie season, and Saquon Barkley is one of the best running backs in the league.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have one of the best receiving duos in the NFL in Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. They also have a pretty strong offensive line and a top-10 running back in Dalvin Cook to go along with their dynamic duo.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have a pretty amazing core group of guys throughout their entire team. On offense, Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper. On defense, two standout linebackers in Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch.

Cleveland Browns

With the right coach the Browns are going to be no joke. The Browns have an established core group of guys who are among the most talented in the league on offense, including Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr, and a few tight ends to play with.

Next. Browns reportedly consider Josh McDaniels their top choice. dark

With the lessons Josh McDaniels has learned from his first coaching stint – and along the way from his time with Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots – he should be more than prepared to lead a team to success.
