4th Down: Will Spygate 2.0 have an effect on the game?

As expected, the latest controversy surrounding the New England Patriots and their alleged cheating last week during the Bengals/Browns game, had no effect on the game. As a matter of fact, I believe there was only one occasion during the broadcast in which “Spygate 2.0” was talked about, and it was very brief.

Even though reports surfaced early Sunday morning suggesting that the penalty will be a stiff one for the Patriots organization – and then video surfaced of the Patriots’ production crew interacting with Bengals security – it didn’t affect the Patriots’ win over the Bengals.

That is a good thing for the team as a whole, but it could be bad for the rest of the league… because if there is one thing you do not want, it is a mad Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.

Remember 2007 and 16-0? How about “Deflategate” and winning the Super Bowl against one the NFL’s greatest defenses in history? Or Tom Brady finally serving his suspension and then the team capping off that season with the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history?

Hopefully history repeats itself… but only time will tell. Stay tuned, Patriots Nation.
