4th Down: Defense, keep doing what you’re doing

It would be interesting to see what the record would be for the New England Patriots this season if it weren’t for the extraordinary play of their defense. The Patriots gave up 23 points to the Chiefs, but Kansas City also scored 40 points just a week ago against the Oakland Raiders… so that is certainly something to be proud of if you’re Bill Belichick.

His unit only gave up two touchdowns and forced three field goals on the evening. But the most impressive stat of all is that the Patriots were able to adjust at halftime and hold the Chiefs offense to just three points in the third and fourth quarters combined.

The Patriots defense also forced two turnovers: an early interception from J.C. Jackson and a forced fumble that was recovered by Stephon Gilmore. The effort of the defense wasn’t reciprocated from the Patriots offense though, and that is why the team ultimately lost Sunday to the Chiefs.
