The New England Patriots (10-3) suffered their third loss of the 2019 NFL season at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) on Sunday evening.

The New England Patriots started off hot in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs, putting the ball in the end zone for an early Tom Brady-to-Julian Edelman touchdown in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Chiefs quickly bounced back by scoring 20 unanswered points and heading into the locker rooms at halftime with a 20-7 lead.

It took the entire second half for the Patriots to claw their way back into the game. Even still, the offense was only able to put a whopping nine points on the board. The defense did a better job in the second half than they did in the first, holding Kansas City to just a field goal.

New England had multiple opportunities to put more points on the board, as they had a couple touchdowns called back due to some questionable officiating. Ultimately the Patriots fell short in their comeback attempt, however, and fell to the Chiefs by a final score of 23-16.

This was not the most clean game for either team, as both turned the ball over and were flagged for multiple penalties throughout all four quarters. In the end though, this game was a slugfest for the offense as well as the defense on both teams, and Kansas City was the team left standing when the clock hit 00:00.

This was the second loss in a row for New England, as they still sit in second place in the AFC behind Baltimore as of the conclusion of Week 14 around the NFL. For now, the Patriots still remain in first place in the AFC East… though the Buffalo Bills are breathing down their necks with just one game between the division rivals in the standings.

Earlier Sunday, we discussed four key areas – or “4 Downs” – to take a look at for this possible playoff matchup. Let’s see how the New England Patriots did in each area.
