The New England Patriots will need to play a perfect game if they want to beat the Kansas City Chiefs and solidify their chances of a first-round bye.

The last two times the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs locked horns, everyone who watched was given a real treat. And it’s easy to see why…

These two opponents give fans everything they could hope for in an NFL game.

Bill Belichick, one of the greatest defensive minds in history, against Andy Reid, one of the best offensive head coaches and innovators in the league. Tom Brady, the gold standard at the quarterback position the past two decades, against Patrick Mahomes, the reigning league MVP and the future at the position. Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and an electrifying Chiefs attack versus Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, Kyle Van Noy, and a dominant Patriots defense.

Bring your popcorn this Sunday.

Both teams might be down some important key players because of injuries. The Chiefs have already lost their two starting running backs for this game (Darrel and Damien Williams). The Patriots have already lost their starting center for this game (Ted Karras). Both teams have other important players listed as questionable for the game, as well.

Will the Patriots win their third straight game in this budding conference rivalry to improve to 11-2 on the season, or will the Chiefs hand New England their third straight loss to an AFC division leader?

With a win, the Pats could all but sew up a first-round bye at the least – and they could even punch their playoff ticket, depending on what happens with a couple other games on Sunday. With a loss, the Patriots will find that the gap between them and their nearest challengers for one of the top two seeds in the AFC – Houston and Kansas City – will have shrunk to just one game… and both of those teams would own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Pats, too.

So much is at stake this Sunday at Gillette Stadium. What are the keys to a New England Patriots victory over the Kansas City Chiefs?
